Fitbit®

Find out if your SCAN plan includes a Fitbit tracker -- and if so, order yours here.

SCAN offers an activity tracker benefit for many plans.

If your SCAN plan includes an activity tracker, you can order a free Fitbit device to monitor your health and wellness goals.

The benefit covers:

  • A Fitbit tracker (selection depends on your plan)
  • A new Fitbit tracker every two years—at no cost to you.

The Fitbit activity tracker automatically counts what you do to be healthy each day—so you don’t have to. It tracks how many steps you take, stairs you climb and calories you burn. It even knows how much sleep you get.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Fitness Tracker (Fitbit).

Q: How can Fitbit help me be healthy?

Staying active is very important to your health, how you feel and your independence as you get older.

When you wear the Fitbit fitness tracker, it automatically keeps track of all your activity. The tracker can:

  • Count the number of calories burned, steps taken, floors climbed and miles walked
  • Determine the number of hours you slept
  • How much time you’ve spent being active

When you walk the dog, go to the drugstore, play tennis, take a nap or even walk to the bathroom and back, Fitbit is keeping track and adding up all that activity. The Fitbit app keeps track of your daily progress, which you can use to stay motivated. The app can also help you set goals for losing weight and log what you eat and how much water you drink each day.

Q: How do I order the Fitbit fitness tracker?

It just takes a few simple steps to get started:

  1. Visit Fitbit’s website.
  2. When prompted, enter your SCAN member ID located on your SCAN member ID card

Q: How do I set up the Fitbit tracker?

If you’re using a smartphone, before getting started, make sure your tracker and mobile phone are charged and that the Bluetooth setting on your phone is turned on. Then:

  1. Download the Fitbit mobile app from the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Windows Store. Then login or create an account using an email address and password of your choice.
  2. Once you've logged in to the Fitbit app, tap on the Account Then select + Set Up a Device.
  3. Select your device and follow the in-app prompts to complete the setup process.

Tip: If possible, use a Wi-Fi connection to help speed up device setup.

If you’re using your computer, you can set up and sync most Fitbit devices with Fitbit Connect. Fitbit Connect is a free software application that lets your Fitbit device sync its data with your fitbit.com dashboard. This requires a computer that is Bluetooth-enabled.

To install Fitbit Connect and set up your device:

  1. Click here, then scroll down and click the pink Download button.
  2. After the download completes, double click the downloaded file to start installation.
  3. After installing, when prompted, choose Set Up a New Fitbit Device.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to login as an existing user or create a Fitbit account and connect your device.

Q: Does my Fitbit come with Fitbit Care?

Absolutely. In addition to the Fitbit itself, your fitness tracker benefit comes with Fitbit Care. With it you’ll have easy access to a variety of engaging videos with insights into heart health, sleep, stress and more. You’ll also have access to SCAN’s private community group for additional support and motivation from other SCAN members. You can enroll in Fitbit Care through the Fitbit mobile app.

Q: Do I need to have a smartphone to use the Fitbit?

No. If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still enjoy the tracking features of a Fitbit. If you want to keep track of your activity without a smartphone, you’ll need to have access to a computer.

Q: Will this benefit cost me anything? Will I need to buy batteries?

For members with this benefit, there is no cost for the Fitbit activity tracker or the Fitbit app and there is no subscription needed.

Your Fitbit will need to be recharged approximately every five days, but an electric charger cord is included. There are no batteries to buy or change (depends on battery life and other factors).

Q: I already have a Fitbit tracker. Can I get reimbursed from SCAN for my purchase?

Unfortunately, no. SCAN can provide a new Fitbit activity tracker if you are eligible for one, but you cannot be reimbursed for one you previously purchased.

Q: Can I upgrade to another Fitbit model?

Not at this time. SCAN covers specific Fitbit models based on your plan.

*The feature has not been tested for and is not intended for use by people under 22 years old. The feature is not intended for use for people with a history or diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. This feature is not intended to provide a notification on every episode of irregular rhythm suggestive of AFib and the absence of a notification is not intended to indicate no disease process is present; rather the Fitbit Irregular Rhythm Notifications is intended to opportunistically surface a notification of possible AFib when sufficient data are available for analysis.
