Get answers to your healthcare questions 24/7 from a licensed, registered nurse.

When to use your SCAN Nurse Advice Line benefit.

Available in all SCAN plans except VillageHealth.

When you have a quick healthcare question, but don’t think you need urgent care, the Nurse Advice Line can help. When you call, you’ll reach a licensed registered nurse who will listen to your questions, evaluate your symptoms and provide an answer—as well as next steps, if needed.

Here are the types of questions a nurse can help you with:

  • Do I need to see a doctor for my cough or fever?
  • Where can I go to get a refill for my prescription that’s running out?
  • What’s the best type of COVID-19 test?

So, the next time you have a question about your health or want to check on some symptoms or side effects, call 1-855-431-5537. There is no cost for these calls. It’s a great place to start when you’re not sure what to do.

Frequently asked questions about the Nurse Advice Line benefit

Q: Who can use the Nurse Advice Line?

The Nurse Advice Line benefit is available to all SCAN Members except for members of our VillageHealth plan.

Q: When should I call the SCAN Nurse Advice Line instead of my doctor?

The Nurse Advice Line is a great place to start when you’re not sure what to do. It is available to you 24/7, so you can call any time to get help if you have questions about symptoms you may be experiencing or side effects of a new medication, or any other general health question you may have. The nurse will give you answers, and if they think you need additional help, they’ll provide you with next steps.

Q: It’s after hours; should I call the Nurse Advice Line or use the SCAN Telehealth Benefit?

Good question. The Nurse Advice Line is great for getting a quick answer to health questions and, depending on how you are feeling, it can be a great first call to get answers about symptoms you may be experiencing or medication side effects. If the nurse thinks you need to see a doctor, they can help you set up a telehealth appointment, direct you to urgent care, or suggest you call your doctor’s office for follow-up.

Q: Can the nurses on the advice line prescribe medication?

No, the nurses cannot prescribe medication, but they can help you set up a telehealth appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner who can prescribe necessary medication.

Q: Can the Nurse Advice Line help me find or troubleshoot my Durable Medical Equipment (DME)?

No, the Nurse Advice Line can’t help with DME. Visit here for more information on using your DME benefit.
