Tips and Tools to Help You Take Your Medications as Prescribed

At SCAN, we want to make it easy for you to take your medications. These tips can help!

Make it mail-order.

Say goodbye to trips to the pharmacy and hello to home delivery!

Most SCAN members pay $0 for Tier 1 and Tier 2 drugs when they order a 3-month supply of their medications through Home Delivery from Express Scripts PharmacySM. Standard shipping is free and because your medications come right to your door, you’ll make fewer trips to the pharmacy.

The easiest way to sign up is to talk with your doctor about Home Delivery from Express Scripts PharmacySM. You can also call Express Scripts PharmacySM at 1-866-553-4125 (TTY: 1-800-899-2114) 24 hours a day, seven days a week or sign up online at www.StartHomeDelivery.com.

Switch to a 3-month supply.

Many SCAN plans offer discounts on a 3-month supply for most drugs at most pharmacies. Having a 3-month supply also means fewer trips to the pharmacy. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about this option.

Choose a lower-cost alternative.

Talk to your doctor about switching to a lower-cost option. It may not have the same ingredients, but it can work just as well. For more information, visit SCAN’s Formulary at scanhealthplan.com/helpful-tools/formulary-search.

Save trips to the pharmacy.

If you’re taking multiple medications on an ongoing basis, sign up for medication synchronization through your pharmacy. You’ll get all your refills scheduled for the same day. This will save you trips to the pharmacy each month.

To sign up, talk to your pharmacist.

Use a pill box.

Pill boxes are a handy way to organize your medications by day or week. Check your local pharmacy to purchase a pillbox. Also, consider making a medication checklist so you’ll never be uncertain if it’s time to take your medications.

Sign up for auto-refill.

Most pharmacies, including Express Scripts PharmacySM, have auto-refill programs for the medications you take every day.

Get regular updates.

If you’ve registered your online member portal account, you’ll get updates on how you’re doing at taking your medications!

Haven’t registered yet? It’s easy! Just visit SCAN’s member account registration page and follow the instructions.

Enroll in Extra Help.

You may qualify for Medicare’s Extra Help program to pay for prescription drug costs. If eligible, Extra Help could pay nearly 100 percent of your drug costs, including monthly prescription premiums, annual deductibles and coinsurance.

To see if you’re eligible for Extra Help, call My Advocate™ at 1-866-866-0980 (TTY: 711), Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
