SCAN Is Only Plan in California to Achieve 4.5 Star Rating Five Years in a Row; 91% Member Satisfaction Rate Affirms SCAN’s Place as Leader in Medicare Advantage

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Oct. 11, 2021—SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, earned a 4.5 star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the fifth consecutive year, making it the only Medicare Advantage plan in California to do so.

SCAN also achieved the highest member satisfaction rating of any California-wide plan for 2022, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). SCAN members gave their health plan an overall 91% rating on CMS’s annual Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (CAHPS) survey, which gauges member satisfaction. It is the fourth year in a row that SCAN has scored 90% or higher.

Both star ratings and member satisfaction scores are used by millions of seniors to choose Medicare Advantage plans for the coming year.

“The numbers don’t lie,” said Dr. Sachin Jain, president and CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan. “SCAN Health Plan has been ranked among the very best in the industry for five straight years in a row, validating SCAN’s commitment to keeping older adults healthy and independent.”

The CMS Star Rating system, which assigns a one- to five-star score to plans annually, was established to enable consumers to compare Medicare Advantage insurance plans based on objective criteria including clinical outcomes, access to preventive services, and management of chronic conditions.

Many of SCAN’s 2022 health plan benefits in Northern California and Southern California, Arizona and Nevada include Part B premium give-backs, reduced maximum out-of-pocket limits (MOOPs), comprehensive and robust dental care, low-cost prescription medications, and in-home technology support designed to get seniors online and in touch with their health providers.

In the coming year, SCAN plans will be available in 13 counties throughout California, including Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura, Sonoma, San Francisco, Napa, Stanislaus Santa Clara, Alameda, and San Mateo.

New for 2022: SCAN is offering plans in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties in Arizona and Clark County in Nevada. For more information about plan benefits and enrollment details, please visit www.scanhealthplan.com.

4.5 out of 5 Star Rating applies to all plans offered by SCAN Health Plan in California from 2018 to 2022 except SCAN Healthy at Home (HMO SNP) and VillageHealth (HMO-POS SNP) plans. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system.
