San Diego Region’s Premier Health Care Provider Cites High Quality of SCAN’s Medicare
Advantage Plans as Basis for Unique, 10-year Partnership

LONG BEACH and SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Oct. 12, 2017—Scripps, San Diego’s premier integrated healthcare delivery system today congratulates SCAN Health Plan®, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, on receiving a 4.5-star rating on a five-point scale from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The CMS rating is indicative of the quality of SCAN’s Medicare Advantage plans, as well as member satisfaction. Scripps and SCAN share a commitment to exemplary care for their collective patients and members, which is the foundation of their 10-year partnership.

“We commend SCAN on its 4.5-star CMS rating. This is the third time in five years SCAN has earned this rating and reflects their dedication to superior quality care and exemplary member service,” stated Marc Reynolds, president, Scripps Health Plan Services, Inc. “That dedication is why SCAN is the only Medicare Advantage plan that bears the Scripps name. For a decade, our two organizations have joined forces to meet the healthcare needs of seniors in San Diego, and we look forward to doing so for many years to come.”

“We’re very proud to have received a 4.5-star Medicare rating once again this year. It’s an affirmation not only of SCAN, but of the care delivered by our great partner, Scripps, and other providers,” noted Chris Wing, CEO of SCAN Health Plan. “We trust the quality of care Scripps provides to our members and are pleased to offer benefit plans that go beyond Medicare to address what members have told us they want and need.”

According to Wing, the company’s most popular plan in the area is Scripps Classic, offered by SCAN Health Plan. In addition to offering all the benefits of Medicare at a $0 monthly premium, the plan also provides such value-added services as transportation to and from medical appointments, a flat fee for quality hearing aids, no-cost tier-one medications at Preferred Pharmacies and, new for 2018, coverage for chiropractic and acupuncture care.

The Star Rating System was established by CMS as part of an effort to educate consumers and ensure transparency on quality data to compare Medicare Advantage insurance plans. CMS ranks health plans on a one- to five-star basis annually, weighing factors including clinical outcomes, access to preventive services, management of chronic conditions and member satisfaction.

SCAN Health Plan recently announced its 2018 health plan benefits, which continue to deliver the stability and affordability valued by plan members. The annual enrollment period for selecting a Medicare Advantage plan for 2018 runs Oct. 15-Dec. 7, 2017. In 2018 SCAN will continue to be available to Medicare-eligible beneficiaries in 11 California counties: Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura, Sonoma, San Francisco, Marin, Napa and Santa Clara.
