(LONG BEACH, Calif. – June 9, 2016) — Eve Gelb, SCAN Health Plan’s senior vice president of healthcare services, will be among the featured speakers at the America’s Health Insurance Plans’ (AHIP) Institute and Expo June 15-17 in Las Vegas. Gelb will be part of a panel of industry leaders discussing “Medicare Advantage: Delivering Value for Beneficiaries Through Innovation.”

“Medicare Advantage has helped lead the industry when it comes to innovations in healthcare delivery, care coordination and disease management,” said Gelb. “It is no wonder that nearly 17 million Americans now receive high-quality affordable coverage through MA plans. The session at the AHIP Expo will examine how changes to the MA risk-adjustment system impact innovative approaches that are driving value and improving care for MA beneficiaries.”

Specifically, Gelb will detail SCAN’s person-centered approach to care, which is based on listening to its members; aligning care goals between all participants in the healthcare process; and effectively leveraging systems, data and resources to drive better outcomes and enhanced satisfaction. In outlining the SCAN model, Gelb will discuss how, by understanding the unique needs of each member as well as the differences between the various populations served by SCAN, the health plan is able to generate and, along with its provider partners, test and refine new programs that deliver real value to beneficiaries.

“Throughout our nearly 40-year history, SCAN has strived to not only understand and meet the individual needs of those we serve but to help shape the future of care for all seniors,” says Gelb. “We are continually looking for ways to improve health status, eliminate gaps in care, reduce acute utilization, and increase provider and patient satisfaction. In many cases smart innovation is the key to making all of this possible.”

At SCAN Gelb is responsible for the care management and care coordination for all of the health plans’ products including Medicare Advantage as well as various special needs plans. She is one of the architects behind SCAN’s highly acclaimed Model of Care, which revolves around caring for the whole individual and spans the continuum of a member’s health status. Gelb brings to her role more than two decades of healthcare experience augmented by a Master of Public Health from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles.
