(LONG BEACH, Calif. – January 4, 2017) — SCAN Group announced today that its board of directors has selected Francesca Ruiz de Luzuriaga to serve as its new chairperson, effective immediately.  She replaces chair Ryan Trimble, who will remain on the board.

“Since joining the SCAN board four years ago, Francesca has shown an unwavering commitment to SCAN’s mission, to our members and to exploring new ways to support healthy, independent aging in our communities,” said Trimble. “Francesca possesses not only incredible leadership but also the thoughtfulness this position requires. SCAN marks its 40th year of serving seniors this year, so we are thrilled that she is taking on this role at such an important time, when we are celebrating our history but also planning for the future.”

Luzuriaga joined the SCAN Health Plan board in 2012 and has served as chair of the board’s audit and compliance committee for the past three years.

Since 2000, Luzuriaga has been working as a business development consultant. Immediately prior she served as the chief operating officer for Mattel Interactive. During her 18-year tenure at Mattel Inc., Luzuriaga held a number of executive positions including executive vice president of worldwide planning and resources, chief financial officer, and executive vice president of finance and marketing services.

Luzuriaga earned a master’s degree in finance at the University of Southern California and an undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, California. She currently sits on the board of directors for Office Depot where she chairs the audit committee. Since 2015 she has also served on the Board of SuperValu, a national grocery distributor. Luzuriaga previously served on the boards of Boise Cascade Corporation, Mossimo Inc. and Providian Financial Corporation.
