SCAN Appoints Dr Magda Lenartowicz and Dr Terence Offenberger to Medical Director

New Directors Bring Innovative Care Management Experience,
Expands SCAN’s Medical and Clinical Expertise

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Aug 14, 2017—SCAN, a leading senior-focused organization with the mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent, today announced the appointment of two new medical directors: Magda Lenartowicz, M.D., and Terence Offenberger, M.D. Lenartowicz will collaborate with the healthcare services and quality improvement teams at SCAN, and oversee clinical programs for Independence at Home, a SCAN community service. Offenberger will provide clinical direction across SCAN Health Plan staff and contracted providers. Together, Lenartowicz and Offenberger add their extensive medical knowledge to SCAN’s broad clinical expertise, helping to ensure the quality and efficiency of care and service seniors receive.

Lenartowicz is a trained internist with a fellowship in geriatric medicine and social scientist with a specialization in gerontology. Prior to joining SCAN she founded a home health company and taught gerontology at McMaster University, Canada. Most recently she served as medical director at a comprehensive geriatric inpatient service in Southern California and continues her clinical work as a hospice and palliative care physician with Rozeroom Hospice. Lenartowicz received her geriatric fellowship training from University of California Los Angeles and completed her undergraduate medical training and residency at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Her undergraduate training in gerontology was obtained at McMaster University.

Offenberger is board-certified in internal medicine and a Fellow at the American College of Physicians. Most recently, Offenberger served as the Southern California market medical director for United Health Plan, where he worked closely with network hospitals and medical groups to optimize their performance, medical management, data submission and other clinical initiatives. He previously held positions at UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser, Anthem Blue Cross, and MemorialCare Medical Group. In the field of academia, he taught medical students and residents at the University of California, Irvine, where he also completed his residency. Offenberger received his medical degree from New York University and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

SCAN’s medical director team is led by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Romilla Batra. Setting clinical policies and procedures at SCAN, Batra provides physician oversight of clinical programs, leads Independence at Home and SCAN’s extensive community services, and helps design clinical initiatives that support healthy and independent aging. With the additions of Lenartowicz and Offenberger, SCAN’s medical director team also includes Dan Osterweil, M.D. and Russell Brower, M.D.
