2020 Routine Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Therapeutic Massage Benefit
SCAN offers a routine acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage benefit through American Specialty Health (ASH)* for most plans.
This is a self-referred benefit, which means you don’t need a doctor’s referral to receive these services. Just schedule your appointment, show your SCAN member ID card and receive an exam. Be sure to choose an ASH provider that contracts with SCAN.
During your first appointment, the ASH provider will talk with you and do an exam to find out what's wrong. If you need more than one appointment, the ASH provider will submit a treatment plan to ASH. Once approved, you can schedule additional appointments and begin your treatment.
Check your Evidence of Coverage to see exactly what your plan includes.
To speak to an ASH representative, call:
1-800-678-9133 (TTY: 1-877-710-2746), Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. (PT)
To find an ASH provider,
Q: How do I find an ASH provider?
Q: I already have an acupuncturist, chiropractor and/or therapeutic massage therapist; can I keep seeing them?
Of course! It’s up to you if you use routine acupuncture, chiropractic care and/or therapeutic massage benefit.
Your acupuncturist, chiropractor and/or therapeutic massage therapist may be in the ASH network of providers. Check with ASH by calling ASH at 1-800-678-9133 Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
SCAN doesn’t cover acupuncture, chiropractic and/or massage therapy services received outside of the ASH network.
Q: Does my doctor need to refer me?
No, you can refer yourself to use this benefit.
Q: How much does it cost?
Q: How many appointments are covered?
* The ASH routine acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage benefit is different from the Medicare-covered acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage benefit. Please review your SCAN Evidence of Coverage to see whether your plan includes routine acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage from ASH. Please note that your plan may not include acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage services.
