(LONG BEACH, Calif. – Feb. 8, 2016) — SCAN Health Plan announced today that AltaMed Health Services has joined the Medicare Advantage plan’s provider network, effective February 1. As a result, SCAN members in Los Angeles County now have access to an expanded network of board-certified, bilingual primary care and specialty physicians.

With a focus on underserved communities, AltaMed is one of Southern California’s leading providers of primary healthcare services and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the nation’s most innovative providers of all-inclusive medical and social services for seniors. One of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN’s focus on quality care has earned the plan a prestigious 4.5 star-rating* from Medicare in all 12 California counties it serves.

“AltaMed has a longstanding relationship in the community and is trusted for the exceptional care and high level of service they provide,” said Sherry Stanislaw, senior vice president and general manager for SCAN in Southern California. “AltaMed’s nonprofit heritage and commitment to quality makes them a great partner for SCAN, and their connection to the community makes them an excellent choice for SCAN members in Los Angeles County.”

AltaMed has been delivering quality care to Latino and multi-ethnic communities for more than 45 years. AltaMed’s patients in Los Angeles receive care through the group’s 200 primary care and almost 500 specialty physicians.

”AltaMed is thrilled to partner with SCAN to continue to provide quality healthcare to our senior patients,” said Jennifer Spalding, senior vice president and chief operations officer for AltaMed. “SCAN’s focus on quality reinforces our commitment to creating access to quality healthcare for seniors and their families in Los Angeles.”

SCAN offers a variety of health plans in Los Angeles County, including a traditional Medicare Advantage Plan (MAPD) as well as a plan for individuals who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal (D-SNP). For these members SCAN offers a personal assistance line (PAL) that helps dual-eligible members navigate the complex Web of Medicare and Medi-Cal services. SCAN’s innovative PAL unit is comprised of a team of bilingual experts trained extensively in the intricacies of Medicare and Medi-Cal benefits.

“Our PAL program helps dual-eligible members get the care they need by serving as liaisons between the enrollee and SCAN healthcare services staff, medical groups, providers and community-based organizations,” said Stanislaw. “It’s a great example of the added service SCAN delivers – and that we look forward to providing to AltaMed’s Medicare patients.”
