(SAN FRANCISCO) — George Louie, M.D., has been named vice president and medical director for SCAN Health Plan in Northern California, effective Oct. 1. SCAN is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans and serves members in California.
“Dr. Louie brings to his new role extensive clinical leadership and management experience with health plans, medical groups and integrated delivery systems in California, Arizona and Oregon,” said Karen Sugano, general manager of SCAN Health Plan Northern California. “As medical director he will be responsible for developing, directing and driving quality-care initiatives and interacting with provider partners throughout our network in helping us achieve our medical management and quality goals.”
For both markets he brings a strong background in implementing innovative care management programs that include physician home visits, chronic care coordination, acute care transition management, and effective care planning. In addition, he brings strength in building successful teams, leading change, and executing programs across a wide range of markets and service environments.
Most recently Dr. Louie served as vice president and senior medical director at Health Net. He has also held executive management positions with PacifiCare Health Systems and MedPartners. Dr. Louie earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis.
Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows the health plan to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. Its focus is to provide affordable and accessible quality healthcare to seniors and to continue to look for innovative ways to serve Medicare members’ healthcare needs.
For 35 years SCAN Health Plan has been focusing exclusively on the unique needs of seniors and others on Medicare. The company currently has nearly 150,000 members in California. Further information may be obtained at www.scanhealthplan.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scanhealthplan.
