(LONG BEACH, Calif. – October 1, 2013) — SCAN Health Plan announced today its 2014 benefits packages, designed to provide Medicare-eligible Californians easy access to providers and programs designed to keep them healthy and independent.
“For more than 35 years, we’ve been dedicated to serving people with Medicare and listening to our members’ needs and wants when it comes to their healthcare,” said Chris Wing, CEO of SCAN Health Plan. “SCAN benefits and services are based on what our members tell us matter most.”
In 2014 SCAN will offer its competitive MAPD benefits in 11 California counties. In Southern California these include: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura counties. In Northern California SCAN is offered in Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties.
SCAN Health Plan members will continue to receive all of the basic benefits traditionally covered under Medicare as well as a prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D). SCAN members must pay their Medicare Part B monthly premium established by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members. That allows the health plan to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving people with Medicare across the wide spectrum of aging. Its focus is to provide affordable and accessible quality healthcare to seniors and to continue to look for innovative ways to serve Medicare members’ healthcare needs. With 150,000 members in California and Arizona, SCAN is one of the largest not-for-profit health plans of its type in the nation.
The annual enrollment period for selecting a Medicare Advantage plan for 2014 runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, 2013. During this time seniors and others on Medicare may choose to switch their health plan or move from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or move back to Original Medicare) with their new elections taking effect Jan. 1, 2014.
SCAN Health Plan is an HMO plan with a Medicare contract. Enrollment in SCAN Health Plan depends on contract renewal. The benefit information provided is a brief summary, not a complete description of benefits. Benefits, formulary, pharmacy network, premium and/or co-payments/co-insurance may change on January 1 of each year. Limitations, co-payments and restrictions may apply. “As Medicare Advantage specialists we understand the coverage and care people need to age with dignity and independence,” added Wing.
