Dr Leo Estrada Joins SCAN Health Plan Board of Directors

(LONG BEACH, Calif.) — SCAN Health Plan has appointed Dr. Leo F. Estrada, professor of urban planning at UCLA, to its board of directors. SCAN is the nation’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan currently serving seniors and the physically disabled in California.
A member of the UCLA faculty since 1981, Dr. Estrada’s work has included a focus on ethnic and racial demographic trends, particularly in the Latino population of the southwestern United States. He is the founding director of the North American Integration and Development Center at UCLA. Dr. Estrada has also held academic positions at the University of North Texas, University of Texas at El Paso, and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
“Dr. Estrada brings to SCAN decades of experience in demographic trends and social policy,” said Ryan Trimble, chairman of the board of SCAN Health Plan. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the board and look forward to his insights on how we can better serve the specific needs of our growing Latino membership as well as an increasingly diverse member base.”
Dr. Estrada received his B.A. from Baylor University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. He is a former board member on the national board of AARP, The California Endowment, New Economics for Women, National Association of Childcare Resource and Referral Agencies, and Hispanics in Philanthropy. In addition, he has served on advisory boards of numerous nonprofit organizations including the Pew Charitable Trust’s Global Stewardship Initiative, The Center for the Study of the American Electorate, the Southern California Association of Governments and Los Angeles World Airports.
