(LONG BEACH, Calif.) — Two executives from SCAN Health Plan will be among the featured speakers at an upcoming summit focused on driving enhanced quality and increased accountability in healthcare. The gathering will take place July 19-21 in Los Angeles with senior leaders from Medicare Advantage health plans, provider groups and accountable care organizations among those expected to attend.

David Meyer, SCAN’s vice president of risk adjustment, coding and audits, will be part of a panel discussion on the implications of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ recent notification to Medicare Advantage plans of planned changes to capitation rate and risk-adjustment rate methodologies for 2016. The discussion will focus on how these changes will affect payment rates for the coming year, how the Star Ratings and bonus programs are going to be altered, and what this shift means to the operations and strategies of Medicare Advantage plans.

Also speaking at the summit will be Janet Cardillo, SCAN’s director of network management administration – operations, who will share her insights on practical and actionable strategies to improve quality-management ratings. This will include ways to enhance provider support and participation, tools to make data work more effectively, isolating areas of dissatisfaction for improvement, and ways to engender positive feedback from members.

Meyer and Cardillo are privileged to join the faculty, which includes such distinguished speakers as Murray Ross, director of the Institute for Health Policy at Kaiser Permanente; Cynthia Tudor, Ph.D., deputy director at the Center for Medicare at CMS; and Paul Cotton, director of federal affairs at the National Committee for Quality Assurance. Together they will address how current changes in the commercial marketplace, particularly as it applies to risk adjustment, are having a ripple effect on the Medicare Advantage space, driving more change to organizational structures, roles and strategies.

The conference will be held at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood. It is co-sponsored by Healthcare Education Associates and RISE (Resource Initiation and Society for Education). Registration and further information may be obtained at
