SoCal Provider Expansion
(LONG BEACH, Calif.) — SCAN Health Plan announced today that three new medical groups have joined the health plan’s provider network in Southern California. As a result, SCAN members in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties now have access to an expanded network of primary care and specialty physicians.
SCAN is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans currently serving more than 170,000 members in California and Arizona. Unlike most health plans SCAN has no commercial members, which allows the plan to focus all of its energy and resources in serving the unique needs of seniors and understanding them better.
“We know that choice and access are two important factors for any senior when choosing their health plan which is why we are so happy to add these well-known providers to our already outstanding network,” said Sherry Stanislaw, general manager for SCAN in Southern California.
Hoag Affiliated Physicians joined the SCAN provider network in Orange County effective October 1, 2014. SCAN members now have access to an additional 40 primary care physicians in Aliso Viejo, Huntington Beach, Irvine and Newport Beach. The contracted hospital for this group is Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian with locations in Newport Beach and Irvine, along with Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine. SCAN members will have access to the larger St. Joseph Hoag Health network of hospitals including St. Joseph Hospital, Mission Hospital Mission Viejo, Mission Hospital Laguna Beach and St. Jude Medical Center.
In Los Angeles County, Access Medical Group will join the SCAN provider network effective January 1, 2015, giving SCAN members the option to choose from the group’s 30 primary care physicians in Santa Monica and Marina del Rey as well as two hospitals – Saint John’s Health Center and Marina del Rey Hospital.
Also effective January 1 SCAN members in San Diego County will have access to the newly formed Scripps Physicians Medical Group. While SCAN members have had access to Scripps Health physicians and hospitals since SCAN first entered the San Diego market in 2007, the new group brings an additional 72 primary care physicians to the SCAN provider network.
Scripps Physicians Medical Group is the newest addition to the Scripps Health organization and joins Scripps Clinic Medical Group, Scripps Coastal Medical Group, Mercy Physicians Medical Group, and Primary Care Associates Medical Group. In addition, SCAN members will continue to have access to the prestigious Scripps Health family of hospitals: Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Scripps Green Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, and Scripps Mercy Hospital.
As announced earlier this month, Scripps Health and SCAN Health Plan have entered into an exclusive co-branding partnership to offer Medicare beneficiaries in San Diego County three health plan options for 2015 – Scripps Classic offered by SCAN Health Plan (HMO), Scripps Signature offered by SCAN Health Plan (HMO), and Scripps Heart First offered by SCAN Health Plan (HMO SNP).
All SCAN members receive all of the basic benefits traditionally covered under Original Medicare as well as a prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D), while paying no deductibles and low co-pays for most services. Other benefits may include vision, routine transportation and hearing aids.
The annual enrollment period for selecting a Medicare Advantage plan for 2015 began Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7, 2014. During this time seniors and others on Medicare may choose to switch their health plan or move from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or move back to Original Medicare) with their new elections taking effect Jan. 1, 2015.
As governed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, member benefits vary by county. Specific information on SCAN’s 2015 benefit plans is available at www.scan2015.com or by calling 855-561-7226, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. TTY/TDD users may call 711.
SCAN Health Plan is an HMO plan with a Medicare contract offered in California by SCAN Health Plan. Enrollment in SCAN Health Plan depends on contract renewal. The benefit information provided is a brief summary, not a complete description of benefits. For more information, contact the plan. Limitations, co-payments, and restrictions may apply. Benefits, formulary, pharmacy network, provider network, premium and/or co-payments may change on January 1 of each year. Other providers are available in SCAN’s network. You must continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium.
