Medicare Beneficiaries Get the Straight Talk From SCAN CEO in Burbank
Date Posted: 12/12/2013
SCAN Health Plan members met face to face with the health plan’s Chief Executive Officer Chris Wing in Burbank recently as part of SCAN’s annual “Member Straight Talk” meetings.
These meetings are a longstanding tradition for the Long Beach-based health plan. Every year during the Medicare annual enrollment period, SCAN leadership travels to cities across California to meet with current members. The meeting at the Burbank Marriott was the 30th and final session for 2013.
“Every year during the annual enrollment period, seniors across the country make health coverage selections that they will be locked into for the next calendar year,” said Wing. “Helping our members understand the annual benefit changes is a top priority at SCAN. This is also an opportunity to hear from our members about the things that are important to them, and we take that information to heart as we design our benefit packages each year.”
Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows the health plan to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. Its focus is to provide affordable and accessible quality healthcare to seniors and to continue to look for innovative ways to serve Medicare members’ healthcare needs.
In addition to Wing, speakers at the Straight Talk in Burbank included Ray Chan, MD, corporate medical director; Jill Selby, vice president of market expansion and product development; and Cheryl Meronk, director of community outreach.
SCAN was founded in 1977 by a group of seniors who were frustrated by their lack of access to services and who wanted an organization to serve their specific needs. Those seniors formed the Senior Care Action Network, now known as SCAN Health Plan. To this day SCAN remains true to its grassroots founding while having grown to be the nation’s fourth largest nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan.
For 35 years SCAN Health Plan has been focusing exclusively on the unique needs of seniors and others on Medicare. The company currently has nearly 145,000 members in California. Further information may be obtained at www.scanhealthplan.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scanhealthplan.
