(LONG BEACH, Calif.) — SCAN Health Plan announced today the top-performing medical groups in its California provider network for 2015. The ten medical groups honored each achieved an average of 4 stars or higher on SCAN’s internal quality metrics, which include a focus on preventive screenings, treatment of chronic conditions, and appropriate documentation to ensure that members get the care they need.
“We take tremendous pride in offering our members access to a network of outstanding, locally based providers who share our commitment to healthy, independent aging,” said Chris Wing, chief executive officer of SCAN. “While we salute all of our contracted physicians for the care and compassion they provide every day, we are particularly pleased to honor these ten medical groups for their quality efforts and achievements.”
The medical groups that received the top honors serve approximately 21 percent of SCAN’s total membership. For the second year in a row, the list includes Greater Newport Physicians, HealthCare Partners, Riverside Medical Clinic, Scripps Health Plan Services Inc., and St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare. Joining the list are Affinity Medical Group, Axminster Medical Group, Brown & Toland Medical Group, Mercy Physicians Medical Group and UCLA Medical Group.
“Each of the top-performing groups has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to not just meeting but exceeding specific quality standards,” said Romilla Batra, M.D., SCAN corporate medical director. “By doing so these groups are raising the bar for healthcare in their communities.”
SCAN’s internal quality metrics for physician groups are similar to the CMS Star Rating System used nationally for health plans. Under that system the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ranks health plans on a one- to five-star basis, weighing such factors as clinical outcomes, access to preventive services such as screenings and vaccines, managing chronic conditions, preventive care, and consumer satisfaction.
SCAN Health Plan is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, currently serving 170,000 members in California. Further information may be obtained at scanhealthplan.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/scanhealthplan.
