SCAN Health Plan Salutes 'Choices for Independence'
During Older Americans Month

(May 10, 2006) — During this year’s observance of Older Americans Month in May, SCAN Health Plan invites local seniors to visit the health plan’s recently opened Senior Connections Resource Center and get the information they need to remain healthy and better manage their life. The Resource Center it located at 1001 Partridge Drive, Suite 200, in Ventura.

“Our goal has always been to help seniors remain healthy and independent,” said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN Health Plan. “Older Americans Month, themed ‘Choices for Independence,’ is a great time to treat yourself to the comprehensive, free resources that are available at the Resource Center. There’s no question that a healthy lifestyle improves your quality of life; and that is why we encourage seniors to visit the center, ask questions and take control of their health.”

Staffed by community resource specialists, SCAN’s Senior Resource Center is a place where seniors or their loved ones can get help with finding the services they may need. In the relaxed setting of the center, visitors can:

  • Access information on health improvement and management;
  • Connect to important resources in the community;
  • Have free Internet access to the Healthwise Knowledgebase;
  • Attend presentations on health topics and healthful food samples (generally on the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m.);
  • Access weight and blood pressure self-management equipment; and
  • Obtain fall-prevention information and attend fall-prevention classes.
