SCAN Health Plan Arizona Announces its 2009
MAPD Benefits for Maricopa County
Plan Includes Medical and Prescription Drug Coverage with No Monthly Premium
(October 1, 2008) — Senior Care Action Network (SCAN), a not-for-profit health plan serving seniors and others with Medicare, announced today that its new Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan for Maricopa County for 2009 will include comprehensive medical coverage with no monthly plan premiums and no deductibles.

“Access to affordable, high-quality care is of importance to everyone these days, especially seniors,” said Tom Lescault, president of SCAN Health Plan Arizona. “We believe that our benefits package provides seniors and others on Medicare with the best possible value when it comes to benefits and services.”

For members of SCAN’s MAPD in Maricopa County, primary care physician office visit co-payments are just $10. There is no co-payment for annual routine physical exams or preventive screenings. In addition, SCAN offers a generous prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D), including a low $5 co-payment for a 31-day supply of preferred generic drugs as well as unlimited coverage for generic drugs.

Members of SCAN’s MAPD plan will receive all of the basic benefits traditionally covered under Medicare including doctor visits, hospital care, emergency/urgent care, skilled nursing facility care and more. In addition, members will receive routine eye and hearing exams; in-home recovery benefits, including home-delivered meals and personal care services; SCAN On-Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line; and access to emergency care worldwide.

Partnering with SCAN in servicing its Medicare Advantage members will be Banner Physician Hospital Organization and Arizona State Physician Association. Members will have more than 1,000 primary care physicians and 2,000 specialists from which to choose. Participating hospitals include Banner, IASIS, and John C. Lincoln.

The Medicare Advantage Plan is the third product offered by SCAN in Arizona. The company also offers a Medicare Special Needs Plan for Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). Another product, SCAN Long Term Care, offers services to nearly 2,000 beneficiaries who are enrolled in the ALTCS program in Maricopa County.

SCAN Arizona is part of SCAN Health Plan, the fourth largest nonprofit Medicare Advantage Plan in the U.S. In addition to Arizona, SCAN currently serves more than 105,000 members in Southern California, making it one of California’s fastest-growing health plans.
