(November 1, 2007) — SCAN Health Plan today announced that its 2008 benefit package for Los Angeles County will once again include comprehensive medical and prescription drug coverage with no monthly premiums and no deductibles. SCAN is one of California’s fastest-growing health plans available exclusively to seniors and other individuals on Medicare.
“Affordability and access to high-quality care is of importance to everyone these days, especially the seniors and others we serve,” said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN Health Plan. “In keeping with our not-for-profit mission, we’ve worked hard to develop an outstanding benefit package that addresses seniors’ concerns, wants and needs when it comes to their healthcare.”
For members of SCAN in Los Angeles County, primary care physician office visit co-payments are just $5. There is no co-payment for annual routine physical exams or preventive screenings. In addition, SCAN offers a generous prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D) that includes unlimited coverage for generic medications on the SCAN formulary and coverage of up to $4,000 for brand name drugs. The co-payment for a 31-day supply of a generic drug from a SCAN-approved pharmacy is just $5.
As always, SCAN members receive all of the basic benefits covered under Medicare including doctor visits, hospital care, emergency/urgent care, skilled nursing facility care and more. Beyond these core benefits, SCAN offers routine eye and hearing exams; transportation to the doctor’s office; plus SCAN On-Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line; and access to emergency care worldwide.
Current members will also continue to receive SCAN’s Independent Living Power benefits, which include personal care coordination and in-home assistance services. In keeping with the SCAN mission, new enrollees will be offered a new set of in-home recovery benefits, including home-delivered meals and personal care services.
“In addition to the health benefits we offer, members often tell us that one of the biggest benefits is the personal attention and individual focus they receive through SCAN,” said Schmidt. One example of this cited by Schmidt is the fact that all telephone calls are answered directly by one of SCAN’s specially trained member service representatives, not by an automated recording. “It’s those extra-added touches that mean a lot to seniors and really help to make us unique,” he said.
Currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, SCAN Health Plan is a not-for-profit organization focusing on the unique needs of people with Medicare. SCAN is one of California’s fastest-growing Medicare Advantage plans, currently serving more than 100,000 members in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego, Riverside, Ventura and Kern counties.
