SCAN Health Plan Adds Whittier-Based Presbyterian
Intercommunity Hospital and Presbyterian Health
Physicians into its Provider Network
(LONG BEACH, CA – February 23, 2005) — SCAN Health Plan announced
today that Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and Presbyterian
Health Physicians have joined the health plan’s network,
effective immediately. As a result, seniors in the greater
Whittier area now have access to these outstanding healthcare
resources through their SCAN membership.

Since opening in 1959, Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital has
been recognized as the area’s leading hospital and healthcare
center. Today, this not-for-profit health center serves more than
800,000 residents in 11 cities within southeastern Los Angeles
County and portions of the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County.
Presbyterian Health Physicians is widely regarded as one of the
area’s premier medical groups with 112 primary care physicians
serving the community.

“We are thrilled to add these wonderful healthcare providers into
our network,” said SCAN Chief Medical Officer Timothy Schwab,
M.D. “It is important to provide members with choice and easy
access when it comes to their medical care, and both the hospital
and the medical group have a long-standing, outstanding
reputation within the community.”

SCAN is a not-for-profit organization focused exclusively on
helping to make life better for seniors in Southern California.
For more than a quarter of a century SCAN has demonstrated what
Dr. Schwab describes as “a unique passion for finding innovative
ways to enhance seniors’ ability to manage their own health and
continue to control how and where they live.”

SCAN Health Plan currently serves 65,000 seniors in most of Los
Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In
addition to providing members such comprehensive health plan
services as routine physicals, hearing exams and prescription
drug coverage, SCAN also offers qualified members Independent
