Chief Medical Officer of SCAN Health Plan Named

Delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging

(LONG BEACH, CA – July 20, 2005) — Timothy Schwab, M.D., chief medical and information officer for SCAN Health Plan, has been named a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging (WHCoA). The conference will be held December 11-14 in Washington, DC.

Named as a delegate by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Dr. Schwab will join other delegates from around the country to vote on resolutions and develop implementation strategies that will help President Bush and Congress shape aging policies for the next ten years and beyond. The 2005 WHCoA is mandated by the Older Americans Act and is designed to focus on the interests and needs of current and future seniors.

“The health and lifestyle needs of America’s seniors will only grow as people live longer and the first of the nation’s 78 million baby boomers turn 60 in 2006,” said Dr. Schwab. “It is important that our nation has programs, plans and funding mechanisms in place to assure that seniors can remain healthy and active and are treated with the respect and dignity they’ve earned. I am honored to be representing this district in addressing such important issues.”

A leading advocate on senior health and lifestyle needs, Dr. Schwab oversees SCAN’s medical policies, medical informatics and government relations. He is also responsible for strategic initiatives designed to enhance the healthcare experience for SCAN’s 70,000 members in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

In addition to his role at SCAN, Dr. Schwab participates in several professional organizations and has served as president of the California Society of Internal Medicine and the Long Beach Society of Internal Medicine. He has also played an active role in several committees of the American Society of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians and previously served as an assistant clinical professor for the School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Schwab previously served on the board of directors for Front Porch, a not-for-profit senior living organization.

Founded in 1977, the not-for-profit SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as one of the state’s fastest growing. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also manages one of the largest and most successful Multi-Purpose Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing community-based, long-term care and in- home personal-care coordination for low-income frail seniors.
