SCAN Ventura County Expansion Continues;

Health Plan to Serve Medicare-Eligible

Residents of Thousand Oaks

(December 5, 2005) — SCAN Health Plan, one of the premier health plans serving seniors throughout Southern California, announced today that effective immediately it will be expanding its Ventura County presence by providing healthcare benefits to Medicare-eligible individuals in Thousand Oaks. Highlights of SCAN’s 2006 benefits package include a low $30 monthly premium and participation in the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D).

SCAN’s entry into Thousand Oaks comes on the heels of the health plan’s June expansion into Moorpark and Simi Valley and its growth early this year into Camarillo, Fillmore, Oxnard, Santa Paula and Ventura.

“We are pleased to be able to give residents of Thousand Oaks an additional choice when it comes to meeting their healthcare needs and being sensitive to their pocketbooks,” said SCAN Chief Executive Officer David Schmidt. “SCAN is deeply committed to Ventura County and to providing an array of quality resources specifically designed to help seniors remain healthy and independent.”

SCAN’s provider partners in Thousand Oaks are Regal Medical Group, which offers members more than a dozen primary care physicians from which to choose, and Los Robles Medical Center. Patients may also go to other hospitals for some services as directed by their physician.

For a low $30 monthly premium – with no deductibles and small co-payments – SCAN members in Thousand Oaks have access to all of the basic benefits covered under Medicare, including: doctor visits, hospital care, emergency/urgent care, skilled nursing facility care and more. Beyond these core Medicare benefits plus Medicare Part D, SCAN members will continue to enjoy coverage for routine eye and hearing exams (including eyewear and hearing aids) and transportation to the doctor’s office, plus SCAN On- Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line, in-home assistance services and access to emergency care worldwide.

New this year is SCAN’s participation in Medicare Part D, a program introduced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services which makes prescription drug coverage available, for the first time, to everyone in Medicare regardless of their income. As part of its participation in the program, SCAN has added hundreds of new medications to its already extensive drug formulary, including generic, brand and injectable drugs. SCAN’s pharmacy benefit has no deductible, unlimited generic coverage, and current SCAN members are automatically enrolled.

Founded in 1977, SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as one of the state’s fastest growing. SCAN currently serves more than 75,000 seniors in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also manages one of the largest and most successful Multi- Purpose Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing community-based, long-term care and in-home personal-care coordination for low-income frail seniors.
