SCAN Health Plan Launches Annual

“Straight Talk” Forums Throughout California

(October 12, 2010) — SCAN Health Plan this month begins its 10-week program of speaking face to face with tens of thousands of its members throughout California at the first of its 18 “Straight Talk Forums” kickoff on Oct. 13 in Granada Hills. SCAN Chief Executive Officer Dave Schmidt, along with other members of SCAN’s senior leadership team, will be among the featured speakers.

Each year SCAN executives hold these forums to share with members and their guests upcoming benefit changes and news about the healthcare industry and to answer questions members may have. “This is one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” said Schmidt. “Straight Talks provide a great way to meet face to face with the people we serve and hear directly from them on the issues that are on their minds.”

SCAN’s Straight Talks are held each year to coincide with the Medicare annual enrollment period, which this year runs from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31. During that time, seniors and others on Medicare may choose to switch their health plan or move from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (or move back to Medicare) with their new selections taking effect January 1, 2011.

In addition to Granada Hills, other Southern California cities SCAN will visit include Torrance (Oct. 15), Long Beach (Oct. 22), Palm Springs (Oct. 27), Anaheim (Oct. 29), San Bernardino (Nov. 2), Alhambra (Nov. 10), Victorville (Nov. 12), San Diego (Nov. 16), Escondido (Nov. 16), Seal Beach (Nov. 19), Laguna Hills (Nov. 30), Ventura (Dec. 3), Oxnard (Dec 3) and San Jacinto (Dec. 10). Northern California Straight Talks will be held in Stockton (Dec. 16), Lodi (Dec. 16) and Concord (Dec. 17). Specific information on locations and times may be obtained by calling 1-877-487-0333 , 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. TTY users call 1-800-735-2929.

SCAN Health Plan is the country’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan currently serving nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at http://www.scanhealthplan.com.
