SCAN Health Plan Appoints Christopher Wing President and CEO
Current COO of Healthcare Partners to Take the Helm of One of America’s Largest Not-for-Profit Medicare Advantage Plans
(LONG BEACH, Calif. – May 4, 2011) — SCAN Health Plan announced today the appointment of Christopher Wing as president and chief executive officer. SCAN is the nation’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan serving seniors and the physically disabled in California and Arizona.
“We are very pleased to have someone with Chris’ breadth of experience and proven leadership in healthcare assume this important role. He is uniquely and highly qualified having served in top executive positions across a wide spectrum of the healthcare industry,” said Colleen Cain, chairperson of SCAN’s board of directors. “Chris will be instrumental in helping us find effective and innovative ways to further our mission of helping seniors lead healthy, independent lives.”
Wing comes to SCAN from Healthcare Partners where he currently serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer. There, Wing was instrumental in helping to facilitate the growth of Healthcare Partners into one of the largest medical groups in the nation, currently serving nearly 700,000 patients – including 175,000 seniors – in California, Nevada and Florida.
Immediately prior to joining Healthcare Partners in 2007, Wing served as executive vice president/chief executive officer for Health Net’s western region. His more than 25 years of managed care experience also includes holding a variety of leadership positions with PacifiCare/Secure Horizons (including serving as executive vice president and CEO of PacifiCare of California), Blue Cross of California, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, Prudential Health Care Plan and Maxicare Health Plans.
“SCAN is an exceptional company with a first-class reputation of providing quality healthcare and putting members first,” said Wing. “I’m looking forward to working closely with SCAN’s employees and provider partners in continuing to make sure that we provide outstanding services to seniors and advocate on their behalf in ways that are consistent with SCAN’s mission and values.”
Wing holds an MBA in strategic planning from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree in corporate marketing and finance from California State University, Long Beach. He is a member of the board of directors of Olive Crest, an organization dedicated to preventing child abuse throughout California, Nevada and the Pacific Northwest.
Wing will be joining SCAN on or before August 1 and will then work closely with interim CEO Ryan Trimble to assure a smooth transition. Trimble, a member of the SCAN board of directors, has been serving as interim CEO since November.
“This is truly a wonderful opportunity coming on the heels of what has been a great experience at Healthcare Partners,” added Wing. “As I reflect on my time there, I know that I will miss the leadership, clinicians and employees whose diligent work has made that organization a successful company with an outstanding future.”
For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of seniors. The company currently has nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at scanhealthplan.com.
