SCAN Health Plan Appoints Bill Roth Chief Operating Officer

(LONG BEACH, CA – September 12, 2011) — SCAN Health Plan has named managed healthcare executive Bill Roth to the newly created role of chief operating officer, effective immediately. In that position Roth will report directly to president and CEO Chris Wing and will be responsible for several core operational areas including claims, healthcare services and information technology.

“Under Bill’s leadership our goal is to maximize synergies among these departments in ways that enhance efficiencies and bring added benefits to our members,” said Wing. “We also will look to Bill to be a key member of our leadership team, bringing with him a background and record of achievement that will help us successfully chart our current and future endeavors.”

Before joining SCAN Roth served as president of the individual and small business markets for CIGNA HealthCare. He also served as business leader when CIGNA acquired Great-West Healthcare. Prior to working at CIGNA, Roth was senior vice president at Aetna where he was responsible for the company’s small group, individual, Medicare and Medicaid businesses. He has also held senior executive positions at Blue Cross of California and WellPoint where he led the development of national individual and small group businesses.

Roth earned both his Bachelor of Science degree and his MBA at Indiana University.

“The Medicare marketplace is incredibly complex and will become even more so given healthcare reform and the aging of our population,” said Wing. “Adding someone with Bill’s accomplishments and values helps assure that SCAN remains a strong presence in the marketplace and continues to fulfill our mission of serving seniors and others on Medicare.”

For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of seniors and is now the country’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan. The company currently has nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at scanhealthplan.com.
