SCAN Health Plan Arizona Named by Modern Healthcare Magazine

One of the Top 100 “Best Places to Work in Healthcare”

(PHOENIX, AZ – Sept. 15, 2010) — SCAN Health Plan Arizona has been named by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the top 100 “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” for 2010. With the prestigious magazine considering companies from the full spectrum of the healthcare industry – hospitals, physician groups, service companies and others – SCAN Health Plan Arizona is one of only a handful of health plans nationwide to be so honored.

Modern Healthcare’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” awards recognize innovative healthcare workplaces that engage and inspire employees. To earn this high honor, judges reviewed company policies, practices, benefits and demographics. In addition, a random selection of employees were asked to respond to a variety of questions that provided insight into their attitudes regarding: leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits, and employee engagement.

“Caring about our members starts with caring about our own employees and realizing that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity,” said Tom Lescault, president of SCAN Health Plan Arizona. “Since entering the Arizona market in 2007, we have worked hard to nurture an enjoyable culture that fosters personal and professional growth. We see it in our employees, and our members tell us that they see it, too.”

The recognition by Modern Healthcare comes less than a month after the not-for-profit health plan was selected by Arizona Business Magazine and BestCompaniesAZ as one of the recipients of the inaugural Arizona’s Most Admired Companies Awards (MAC). And late last year the Phoenix Business Journal and BestCompaniesAZ named SCAN Health Plan Arizona one of Phoenix’s “Best Places to Work.” In all instances criteria used to judge companies included overall employee experience, workplace environment, leadership direction, culture and management practices.

“This series of workplace awards is certainly gratifying but also a bit humbling,” said Lescault. “Our challenge now is to do even better in these areas as we try to raise the bar to ensure the SCAN experience is felt by members, employees and provider partners alike.”

Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows it to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. Its focus is to provide affordable and accessible quality healthcare to seniors and to continue to look for innovative ways to serve Medicare members’ healthcare needs. As part of its commitment to the senior community, in 2009 SCAN opened a Senior Resource Center that provides a variety of training programs and helps residents identify community resources available to them. It also is involved in a number of community outreach activities dedicated to seniors’ health and wellness.
