SCAN Health Plan Expands Into Ladera Ranch
(LONG BEACH, CA - July 27, 2004) - SCAN Health Plan, California's
only specially designed "social HMO," has expanded its reach into
Ladera Ranch. As a result, seniors in this community now have
access to a unique complement of medical benefits and in-home
personal care services that have been expressly designed to help
them remain healthy, independent and in control of their lives.

Partnering with SCAN in servicing members in this area are
Saddleback Memorial Medical Center and San Clemente General
Hospital. In addition, more than 75 primary care physicians
affiliated with Monarch HealthCare are available to members of
SCAN.

The expansion of SCAN into Ladera Ranch extends the health plan's
reach, which covers Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and
Riverside Counties. SCAN, a not-for-profit organization,
currently provides benefits to more than 60,000 members, making
it California's fourth largest senior health plan.

"SCAN is more than a health plan for seniors with Medicare," says
SCAN Chief Executive Officer David Schmidt. "In each community we
serve, we are an important, local resource for seniors who want
to maintain their independence while being assured of receiving
the quality healthcare and respect they deserve."

In addition to providing members such comprehensive health plan
services as routine physicals, hearing exams and prescription
drug coverage, SCAN is one of just four health plans in the
nation to offer qualified members a collection of in-home
personal care services. Called Independent Living Power®, these
services have been designed to enrich members' quality of life
and include such components as adult daycare, transportation
services, home-delivered meals, caregiver relief and much more.

"Over the past 30 years SCAN has been able to keep more than
20,000 seniors out of nursing homes and at home where they prefer
to be and where they maintain their feeling of independence and
esteem," said Schmidt.
