SCAN Health Plan Promotes Khanh Vu to Vice President of Medi-Cal

(Long Beach, CA – December 12, 2008) — SCAN Health Plan has promoted Khanh Vu to the newly created position of vice president of Medi-Cal, effective immediately. Vu had been serving as a business development executive for the health plan where she was responsible for leading the organization’s Medicaid expansion strategies. SCAN currently serves more than 7,000 members who are covered by both Medicare and Medi-Cal. Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program.

“Khanh has played a key role in developing SCAN’s line of business for seniors and others who are dually eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal,” said Deborah A. Miller, senior vice president of health care services at SCAN. “She will continue to actively participate in the design of SCAN’s Medi-Cal programs while taking on greater responsibility in overseeing the business operations.”

Prior to joining SCAN in 2006, Vu served as director of strategic development at CalOptima, a managed care organization in Orange County, where she led efforts to launch a Special Needs Plan for people with Medicare and Medi-Cal. She also worked for more than four years at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Vu earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. She also earned a Master of Business Administration at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.

For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of people with Medicare and today is the fourth-largest nonprofit Medicare Advantage Plan in the United States. The company currently serves nearly 105,000 members in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Ventura and Kern counties. In Arizona, SCAN offers a health plan for Medicare and Medicaid-eligible individuals, provides long-term care services to individuals enrolled in the state’s long-term care system in Maricopa County, and in 2009 will be offering a Medicare Advantage Plan in Maricopa County.
