SCAN Employees Deliver the
'True Meaning of Christmas' to Local Seniors
(LONG BEACH, CA - December 13, 2004) - The holidays were
brightened for more than 2,700 local seniors Saturday by
employees of SCAN Health Plan who donated their time to place
holiday cheer phone calls. In the true spirit of Christmas -
reaching out to others - more than 150 volunteers placed calls to
SCAN members wishing them happy holidays as part of the health
plan's annual Holiday Cheer program. The members were then sent a
ten-minute calling card so that they can reach out to their loved
ones this holiday season.

"This can be a lonely time of year for many people, especially
seniors," said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN
Health Plan, who personally called many of the health plan's
centenarian members during the Holiday Cheer call-a-thon. "SCAN
employees understand that because they interact with older adults
on a daily basis."

For the sixth year in a row, the Holiday Cheer program was
organized by SCAN employees. ""Every year, more and more
employees sign-up to participate," said Barbara Tracy, a manager
at SCAN Health Plan who helped coordinate this year's event. "We
feel good about reaching out and placing calls to seniors who
simply want to enjoy the company of someone who cares."
Volunteers also received incoming calls from seniors who called
in on a published toll-free number.

SCAN Health Plan, a leader in addressing senior healthcare needs,
currently serves more than 60,000 seniors in most of Los Angeles,
