SCAN Health Plan Names Allen Freymuth

Vice President of Claims

(LONG BEACH, CA – January 16, 2006) — SCAN Health Plan has promoted Allen Freymuth to the position of vice president of claims, effective immediately. Freymuth previously served as claims director for the senior-focused health plan, which serves nearly 80,000 members throughout Southern California.

In his new role, Freymuth will retain his existing claims responsibilities and will also gain operating responsibility for VillageHealth, a four-year demonstration project designed to improve quality of life and healthcare access for individuals with End Stage Renal Disease. SCAN is one of only a handful of sites nationally, and the only one in California, recently selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to participate in this important project.

“Allen has already done a wonderful job of restructuring the claims process improving both efficiency and productivity,” said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN. I have no doubt that he will continue to maintain the strength and stability of the department while assuming expanded, leadership responsibilities in his new role.”

Freymuth earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in social science from California State University at Los Angeles. He has also studied business law and workers’ compensation law and practice. Before joining SCAN, Freymuth served as operations manager of Medicare claims and technical support at Blue Shield of California.

Founded in 1977, SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as one of the state’s fastest growing. SCAN currently serves nearly 80,000 seniors in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also manages one of the largest and most successful Multi-Purpose Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing community-based, long-term care and in-home personal-care coordination for low-income frail seniors.
