Francesca Ruiz de Luzuriaga Joins SCAN Health Plan Board of Directors

(LONG BEACH, Calif. – January 17, 2012) — SCAN Health Plan announced today the appointment of business executive Francesca Ruiz de Luzuriaga to its board of directors. SCAN is the nation’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan currently serving seniors and the physically disabled in California and Arizona.

“Francesca brings to SCAN more than three decades of corporate experience, and we look forward to benefiting from her extensive business acumen and passion for excellence. With a strong background in financial and business development, she is uniquely qualified to support SCAN’s mission and vision of expanding our ability to serve the growing number of Medicare beneficiaries in our communities,” said SCAN Health Plan Board Chairperson Colleen Cain. “We are delighted to welcome Francesca to the SCAN team and expect her insights will help our organization find new ways to enhance our ability to maximize the health and independence of our members.”

Since 2000, Luzuriaga has been working as a business development consultant assisting organizations with multiple aspects of business start ups and product innovation. Immediately prior, she served as the chief operating officer for Mattel Interactive, a $5.8 billion company. During her 18 years at Mattel, Luzuriaga held a number of executive positions including executive vice president of worldwide planning and resources, chief financial officer, and executive vice president of finance and marketing services.

Luzuriaga holds a master’s degree in finance from the University of Southern California. She earned her undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, California. Luzuriaga currently sits on the board of directors for Office Max Inc. where she chairs the audit committee and is an audit committee financial expert as defined by the Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition, Luzuriaga previously served on the boards of Boise Cascade Corporation, Mossimo Inc. and Providian Financial Corporation.
