SCAN Health Plan Arizona Announces Expansion into
Pima County
(PHOENIX, AZ – September 21, 2010) — SCAN Health Plan Arizona, a nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan, announced today that it has received regulatory approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to expand its Medicare Advantage plan into Pima County, effective January 1, 2011. SCAN has been offering its Medicare Advantage plan in Maricopa County for the past three years and currently serves more than 8,000 seniors and physically disabled residents.
Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows it to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. SCAN was founded by seniors for seniors and today continues to focus on providing affordable and accessible quality healthcare that promotes senior health and independence.
“For more than 30 years, SCAN has been committed to providing services that enhance seniors’ ability to manage their health and to continue to control where and how they live,” says Tom Lescault, president of SCAN Health Plan Arizona. “As a result, we believe we bring a unique mission and an unmatched perspective that will enrich senior healthcare in Pima County.”
Enrollment for 2011 runs from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 with coverage taking effect Jan. 1, 2011. SCAN has contracted with many of the leading hospitals and physicians in Pima County.
While benefit plans for 2011 are prohibited from being announced until Oct. 1, Lescault said that the plans SCAN will offer in Pima County will “focus on affordability and access plus the added benefit of the personal service SCAN routinely provides to its members.”
“As part of our commitment to the senior community, we are looking forward to providing health coverage in Pima County and becoming an integral part of the senior community,” added Lescault.
SCAN Health Plan is the country’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan, currently serving nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at http://www.scanhealthplan.com.
