SCAN Health Plan Promotes Hans Eckardt

to Vice President of Marketing

(LONG BEACH, CA – November 9, 2005) — SCAN Health Plan, one of California’s fastest-growing Medicare Advantage Plans, has promoted Hans Eckardt to vice president of marketing, effective immediately. Eckardt previously served as director of marketing for the health plan.

“Hans has played a key role in our marketing efforts and has been instrumental in the incredible growth we’ve experienced over the past year,” said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN. “We look to him to be a major driver of our marketing strategy going forward as we work to grow our membership in 2006 and beyond.”

In his role at SCAN, Eckardt oversees the health plan’s external communication efforts including advertising, direct mail and communication to existing SCAN members. He also oversees SCAN’s telemarketing functions, manages the company’s Web site, directs the development of marketing collateral materials, and is responsible for developing and implementing various multimedia campaigns.

Eckardt has more than 15 years of experience in managed care and marketing. Prior to joining SCAN in 2004, he held executive marketing roles at PacifiCare and FHP International. Eckardt earned an MBA from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management in Claremont.

Founded in 1977, SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as one of the state’s fastest growing. SCAN currently serves more than 75,000 seniors in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern and Ventura counties. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also manages one of the largest and most successful Multi-Purpose Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing community-based, long-term care and in-home personal-care coordination for low-income frail seniors.
