SCAN Health Plan Elects Colleen Cain New Board Chair

(LONG BEACH, CA – January 21, 2009) — Healthcare Executive Colleen A. Cain has been elected chairperson of the board of directors of SCAN Health Plan, effective January 1. She replaces Mike No?l who remains on the board and assumes the position of audit committee chair.

Cain brings to her new role nearly three decades of experience in healthcare policy and administration. She has been a member of the SCAN board of directors since 2004, serving as audit committee chair in addition to serving on the board’s corporate governance and compensation committees.

“I am deeply committed to the nonprofit mission and values of SCAN and to the important role we play in helping seniors access the quality healthcare resources they need to maximize their independence and well-being,” said Cain. “It is an honor to be elected chair of such a great organization at a time when our nation is facing so many challenges about the aging of our population and the future of healthcare.”

During her career, Cain has served as president of Concera Corporation and was a senior vice president at ACS, a Fortune 500 company that provides international outsourcing solutions. She also co-founded and served as CEO of Benova, Inc, a company that provided services to state Medicaid programs and the federal Medicare program, and was executive director of HealthChoice, Inc.

In addition to her role on the SCAN board, Cain currently serves on the boards of directors of The SCAN Foundation, Legacy Health System, Care Oregon, and PSI. She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and has participated in director education programs at the Northwestern Kellogg School, Stanford University, the Estes Park Institute and the Governance Institute.

An active volunteer in education and healthcare policy issues, Cain has served on three Oregon governors’ commissions. She holds a master’s degree in health policy and planning from the University of Iowa and a bachelor’s degree also from the University of Iowa.
