SCAN Health Plan Named One of

Arizona’s Most Admired Companies

(PHOENIX, AZ – September 1, 2010) — SCAN Health Plan Arizona, a nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan, has been selected by Arizona Business Magazine and BestCompaniesAZ as one of the recipients of the inaugural Arizona’s Most Admired Companies Awards (MAC). SCAN and its fellow winners will be honored at a ceremony to be held Sept. 14 at the Ritz Carlton Phoenix.

Arizona’s Most Admired Companies are selected based on how a company has performed in four key areas: workplace culture (as voted by employees), customer opinion (as assessed by customers), leadership excellence, and corporate and social responsibility. “These companies truly exemplify what it means to be a good corporate citizen,” says Cheryl Green, vice president of marketing for Arizona Business Magazine.

“We are thrilled to be included among Arizona’s most admired companies and look forward to celebrating with our fellow honorees later this month,” said Tom Lescault, president of SCAN Health Plan Arizona. “We have always taken tremendous pride in our organization’s culture and commitment to our members, and this award underscores the passion our employees feel about SCAN and the difference we believe we make in the lives of seniors every day.”

In being named one of the state’s most admired companies, SCAN is also in the running for one of four special Spotlight Awards in each of the four categories of excellence. Those winners will be announced at the Sept. 14 ceremony.

Since entering the Arizona market in 2006, SCAN’s operations have expanded from being solely a Medicare Special Needs Plan for beneficiaries enrolled in the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) in Maricopa County to include a Medicare Advantage plan for residents of Maricopa County (launched in 2009). As part of its commitment to the senior community, in 2009 SCAN opened the SCAN Connections Senior Resource Center, which provides a variety of training programs and helps residents identify community resources available to them. It also is involved in a number of community outreach activities dedicated to seniors’ health and wellness.

Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows it to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. Its focus is to provide affordable and accessible quality healthcare to seniors and to continue to look for innovative ways to serve Medicare members’ healthcare needs.

Late last year the Phoenix Business Journal and BestCompaniesAZ named SCAN Health Plan Arizona to the 2009 list of the “Best Places to Work.” SCAN was acknowledged for creating an enjoyable corporate culture and work environment that fosters personal and professional growth for its employees. The recognition considered various aspects of the employee experience, including workplace environment, leadership direction, culture and management practices.
