Alhambra City Council Honors SCAN Health Plan
July 14, 2005 – SCAN Health Plan has been recognized by the
Alhambra City Council for its participation in the Joslyn
Center’s Case Management Expo for Seniors and the Disabled. The
event was held in conjunction with Older America’s month and
brought together more than 20 local organizations that support
the health and lifestyle needs of the elderly.

Other health-related organizations in addition to SCAN who were
honored by the city council included Alhambra Hospital Medical
Center, Arroyo Seco Medical Group, Facey Medical Group, Lifeline
Ambulance and Senior Plus Home Health Services.

“We are very proud to be honored by the Alhambra City Council and
are happy to be able to work with all of these other fine
organizations in such a worthwhile project,” said SCAN’s Paula
Tate in accepting the resolution of appreciation from Mayor
Daniel Arguello. “We believe it is vitally important that
healthcare remain affordable and accessible for seniors in
Alhambra and the surrounding communities, and we will continue to
do all that we can to meet that goal.”

For no monthly premium, SCAN members in Alhambra avail themselves
of all of the basic benefits covered under Medicare including
doctor visits, hospital care, emergency/urgent care, ambulance
service, home healthcare, skilled nursing facility care and
chiropractic/podiatry care. Beyond these core Medicare benefits,
SCAN members also enjoy generous prescription coverage (including
brand and generic), coverage for routine eye and hearing exams
(including eye wear and hearing aids) and transportation to the
doctor’s office, plus SCAN On-Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line,
in home assistance services, and access to emergency care
worldwide. All of these “value-added benefits” are keeping with
SCAN’s unique passion for finding innovative ways to enhance its
members’ abilities to manage their own health and continue to
control how and where they live.

Founded in 1977, SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare
Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as
one of the state’s fastest growing. SCAN currently serves over
70,000 seniors in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino
and Ventura counties. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also
manages one of the largest and most successful Multi-Purpose
Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing community-
based, long-term care and in-home personal-care coordination for
low-income frail seniors. Further information may be obtained at
