SCAN Health Plan Announces 2006 Benefit Package
Including Participation in Medicare Part D
(October 3, 2005) — SCAN Health Plan announced today its benefit
package for 2006, including participation in the new Medicare
Prescription Drug Plan (Part D), which greatly enhances
prescription drug coverage for its members in San Bernardino
County beginning January 1. In addition, SCAN announced that it
will continue to offer Medicare-eligible individuals in the
county comprehensive coverage with no monthly premiums and no
deductibles.

“We are pleased to continue to offer seniors and others on
Medicare the best possible value when it comes to benefits and
services,” said David Schmidt, chief executive officer of SCAN
Health Plan "And with the addition of our new Medicare Part D
contract, SCAN members in San Bernardino County will have even
better coverage for their medication needs in 2006."

SCAN members receive all of the basic benefits covered under
Medicare including doctor visits, hospital care,
emergency/urgent care, skilled nursing facility care and more.
Beyond these core Medicare benefits plus the new Medicare Part
D, SCAN members in 2006 will continue to enjoy coverage for
routine eye and hearing exams (including eyewear and hearing
aids) and transportation to the doctor’s office, plus SCAN On-
Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line, in-home assistance services,
and access to emergency care worldwide.

New this year is SCAN’s participation in Medicare Part D, a
historic program introduced by the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services which makes prescription drug coverage
available, for the first time, to everyone in Medicare
regardless of their income. As part of its participation in the
program, SCAN has added 300 new medications to its already
extensive drug formulary including generic, brand and injectable
drugs. SCAN’s pharmacy benefit has no deductible, unlimited
generic coverage, and current SCAN members are automatically
enrolled.

Founded in 1977, SCAN is one of the four largest Medicare
Advantage Plans in all of California and consistently ranks as
one of the state’s fastest growing. SCAN currently serves nearly
75,000 seniors in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino
and Ventura counties. In addition to its health plan, SCAN also
manages one of the largest and most successful Multi-Purpose
Senior Service Projects (MSSP) in California providing
community-based, long-term care and in-home personal-care
coordination for low-income frail seniors.
